Capability
Find research facilities and technical capability in the UKBritain can already do more than it can find.
Search laboratories, testing and certification, specialist equipment, prototyping, pilot production, manufacturing and research compute across Britain. UKIZ only shows a capability when it can point to the organisation's own published evidence for it, with the date it was last checked.

Availability must be confirmed
Capability is recorded. Whether it is free is a conversation with the organisation.
“The University of Oxford's robotics research institute, organised into groups working on mobile robotics, dynamic legged locomotion, applied artificial intelligence, robot learning and goal-oriented long-life navigation. Several British robotics companies have their origins in this group.”
Its own published record states “Robot learning and applied machine intelligence”, which answers intelligence in your question.
Recorded way in: Doctoral and research posts advertised through the department.

Capability is recorded. Whether it is free is a conversation with the organisation.
“A research university whose robotics activity spans autonomous systems, swarm robotics and manufacturing automation, and which operates the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.”
Its own published record states “Control, sensing and machine intelligence”, which answers intelligence in your question.
Recorded way in: Industrial access to manufacturing capability through AMRC membership.

Public profiles show durable capability, not live commercial availability. Where an organisation has privately confirmed capacity, scale or availability, UKIZ may use that to improve matching without publishing the confidential detail.

“Can I connect, power and host what I am building here?”
Named facilities and research organisations
Capability search answers "who can do this". If you already know the building you are looking for, the directories list named facilities and research organisations with their own profiles.
Questions people actually ask
- How do I find a UK lab or facility that can do a specific piece of work?
- Describe the work rather than the equipment. UKIZ interprets the question against a capability taxonomy, returns the organisations that publish evidence of that capability and shows the evidence behind each record.
- Does UKIZ know whether a facility is available?
- No. UKIZ records durable capability and, separately, any access arrangement the organisation has stated. Live availability, capacity and price are confirmed with the organisation.
- Do I need to be near the facility?
- Usually not. Testing, measurement and manufacture are routinely accessed across the country. Proximity matters where work depends on repeated hands on sessions, shared specialist equipment or people moving between sites.
- Where does the information come from?
- Primary sources published by the organisation itself. Each record carries its source, the date it was last checked and a caveat when it has aged or has not been confirmed.
What UKIZ does not hold
Public profiles show durable capability, not live commercial availability. Where an organisation has privately confirmed capacity, scale or availability, UKIZ may use that to improve matching without publishing the confidential detail.
