Every point is a recorded place, never a proposed site, a designation or a ranking.
How the map is builtEvery point is a place where capability is already recorded. None of them is a proposed UKIZ site, a designation or a ranking. Choosing a Zone reads the same points through that Zone’s lens; it does not change what is on the ground.
About the data
Evidenced location, not UKIZ interpretation.
Each place is drawn from authoritative public sources: research and innovation activity, government-designated programmes and official university and institutional sources. That is what the point records: capability that exists, where it sits, and where the evidence for it comes from.
UKIZ Zones are a separate, clearly labelled layer: a lens for reading which of those recorded places carry capability relevant to a given national mission. A Zone is a classification UKIZ applies; it is never a claim that the place has been designated, selected or ranked.
