Standards, testing and certification

Find standards, testing and certification routesNavigational, not regulatory advice.

A route map for market readiness: who sets the rules, who accredits, who tests, who certifies and who helps you prepare.

Requirements change and vary by product, market and claim. UKIZ links to current official guidance rather than paraphrasing it, and dates every statement it does make.

27 verified records from 10 organisations across 8 places. Most recent check 2026-08-25.

What this page is

UKIZ distinguishes a regulator, a standards body, an accreditation body, a testing laboratory, a certification body and a consultant, because they do different things. No organisation is described as accredited, approved or notified unless an authoritative source says so, and the source is linked.

UKIZ does not determine which rules apply to your product, does not certify anything and does not provide legal or regulatory advice.

Live. 27 verified records from 10 organisations, each linking to the source it came from.

How to use it

  1. Start with the official guidance

Find the rules that apply to your product and market from the authoritative bodies first. Everything else on this page is about finding organisations that can help you meet them.

  2. Accreditation is a claim with an owner

Accreditation status is held and published by the accreditation body, not by UKIZ. Check the current schedule for the specific test, scope and standard you need, because scopes are narrower than they look.

  3. Facilities as well as organisations

Testing capability often sits inside a facility rather than a company. Laboratories, testbeds and proving grounds are recorded on the capability pages with their published access wording.

  4. Describe the pathway you need

A Need can describe the testing or certification support you are looking for, with the standard, the market and the timing, without publishing anything commercially sensitive.

Common questions

  1. Will UKIZ tell me which rules apply to my product?

No. UKIZ points at the regulators, standards bodies and official guidance. Deciding what applies is your responsibility, usually with qualified advice.

  2. Is an organisation listed here accredited?

Only where an authoritative source says so and is linked. Always check the current scope with the accreditation body.

  3. Does UKIZ certify products?

No. UKIZ is a discovery service and takes no part in testing, certification or approval.
