UKIZ maps existing concentrations of companies, research, capital, infrastructure and specialist capability across Britain.

UKIZ did not create these ecosystems. It maps them. Every record carries its sources and a verification date.

Living dataset

147 verified organisations and assets.

147 active records supported by acceptable evidence, of 185 in the canonical directory. The remaining 38 are discovered records still being verified and are never counted as established ecosystem entities. Research organisations and infrastructure both include the Catapult network, so category figures overlap by design.

    Where a category reads "coverage expanding", UKIZ has not yet mapped enough of it to publish a number. That describes the directory, not the country — a thin count is a data gap until research proves it is an ecosystem gap.

    How this directory is maintained

    Records come from the organisation's own published material and authoritative public sources such as UKRI and the Companies House register. Where something is not published, we leave it blank rather than estimate it.

    Every record carries a last-verified date. Anyone can propose a correction, a new organisation or a missing cluster, and every submission is reviewed before it appears.

    There is no paid placement and no sponsored ranking. Inclusion and ordering are based on relevance to the question being asked, never on payment or relationship.
