Spinouts, IP and technology transfer
Explore research moving towards commercial usePublished evidence only. Nothing inferred from a founder's biography.
Spinout companies, technology transfer and commercialisation offices, published licensing opportunities, research centres and current commercialisation programmes, recorded from official university and funder sources.
Commercialisation is slow, specific work. This page shows what is on the record today so a conversation can start from evidence rather than from a rumour.
25 verified records from 18 organisations across 13 places. Most recent check 2026-08-25.
What this page is
UKIZ records spinout status only where a university or the company itself publishes it. It does not claim that intellectual property is available, patented, validated, licensable or investment ready unless the source says so, and it never reproduces protected technical material.
UKIZ is not an IP broker, a patent adviser or an investment adviser, and it is not a party to any licensing discussion.

How to use it
What counts as a spinout here
A company the university or the company publicly describes as a spinout, with a source UKIZ can link to. Founder affiliations, alumni status and lab addresses are not treated as evidence.
Technology transfer offices
Commercialisation offices are recorded as the route in. Where they publish licensing opportunities, calls or contact routes, UKIZ links to those pages directly rather than restating them.
Working with a university instead
Many industry problems are solved through collaboration rather than a licence. The university and industry collaboration hub holds partnership routes, doctoral training and funded programmes.
If something is missing
Universities, offices and spinout companies can claim and correct their records, and anyone can contribute an official source.
Common questions
Can I licence technology through UKIZ?
No. UKIZ points at the university office or the published opportunity. Any licence is agreed directly with the rights holder.
How does UKIZ decide a company is a spinout?
Only from an explicit published statement by the university or the company, carrying a date and a link.
Does a record mean IP is available?
No. Availability is only shown when the source explicitly publishes an opportunity.
